to WFISD and the State of Texas

Fifteen parents with children at a school signing up to request a New Elective Class for their child means by state law the school district should make every effort to make the class available, because the state still recognizes the importance of parents in their children's learning.

Yes, let my child have this New Elective Class as outlined for the benefit of my child. I understand the classes at each grade level would go deeper into the materials covered from kindergarten through elementary school, junior high and high school. I believe this will help my child excel in all other classes.

Reference books and materials would include but not be limited to:
How to read, write, and hold a pencil for beautiful penmanship.
the Blue Book Speller and New England Primer revised

Noah Webster's Dictionary of the American Language, 1828 revised edition, for detailed understanding of words.
The Lives of the Signers, a text used in early American schools as late as 1850 to teach the Declaration of Independence and its grievances against the king.
McGuffey Reader Series, used in American schools for generations
Original Intent, by David Barton, showing the speeches and comments of America's Founding Fathers to restore these role models for my children
Traditional math books, even introducing the logic of plane geometry in simple ways at early ages
American history book materials from 1895
The Light and the Glory as suggested reading for extra credit.
Original speeches from America's presidents and congressmen about law and money and government.
Psalms and Proverbs as historical guidelines of western civilization.
The Bible as historical literature, poetry, and wisdom
George Washington and His Generals
Brave Men and Great Captains and similar stories of true heroes.
Good books as approved by parents.
Our Sacred Honor, compiled by William Bennet, with original documents from Founding Fathers and statesmen
A book titled The World's Great Speeches.

This list may be added to or changed, but it gives the sense of what is wanted for our children.

  • Let my child be trained in self discipline.
  • Let my child learn the beauty of music
  • Let my child be grounded in the foundations of understanding
  • Let my child learn the great words of this nation's Founding Fathers
  • Let the early American role models be restored to my child through old history and old stories.

To WFISD and the State of Texas

I believe a class like this given to my child each year is a good thing.
It will give a fair opportunity for quality materials I want my student to learn.
A class like this will be an asset to my student for all other classes.
A class that can give suggested reading from parent's input.

I recognize that my child only has so much time to learn, so I want to make it count the best way possible, and this is why I'm asking for this course. Please respect my desires in training up my child. Thank you.

As recently as President Harry S. Truman,

these words were spoken to Americans by a God-fearing President. The fundamental basis of this nation's law was given to Moses on the Mount. The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teaching we get from Exodus and St. Matthew, from Isaiah and St. Paul.

I don't think we emphasize that enough these days. If we don't have the proper fundamental moral background, we will finally end up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in the right for anybody except the state.

The state has now taken away many rights that existed sixty years ago when Truman spoke those words. I want to teach the history of America's freedom so we can have a better chance to preserve both for ourselves and our posterity as pointed out in the original Declaration of Independence.
