Please know the Founding Fathers did not include a Department of Education in the Constitution.
The federal government department of education didn't happen till LBJ and his presidency.
People are suposed to oversee the teaching of their children, not the gov that taxes them.
The Northerners didn't want the Southeners teaching their children, and vice-versa.
The French didn't want the English teaching their children. Wonder why?
God didn't want Moabite wives teaching the children of Abraham.
And many don't want you teaching your children your ways, values, and beliefs.
Most war is for the protection or enlargement of the government power interests. Have you ever seen a peasant be the leader to stir up the nation to go to war? Do you want the government teaching your children? Since the gov. began doing that, they have been changing the purpose of schools drastically.
The government knew enough to send Indian children to the white man's schools so they wouldn't learn the ways of their parents. The French thinkers pubished the idea around the time of Napoleon, that you didn't have to make war, all you had to do was control who taught the children what.
Even the tribal peoples of Australia have recognized the loss of their own systems of education, as the U.N. works to provide outside educators, systems, and materials.
If the Banjalong women of Australia can recognize the problem, do you think American mothers and fathers can do as well?
The UN has already recognised through its Convention on Biological Diversity the special importance of indigenous peoples knowledge. We believe that it is important to recognise that this knowledge can only be maintained if governments and non-indigenous education providers and institutions support our right to maintain our own systems of education, which is the primary means by which this knowledge can be maintained, developed and passed on to future generations.
On a practical level, we also seek support from UNESCO to build stronger links among indigenous educators, both in our region, the Asia-Pacific, and internationally.
Finally, we consider that in the International Decade of Indigenous Peoples, UNESCO can play a special role through its programs in promoting greater understanding world wide of the special rights of indigenous peoples. In particular, we believe that this should be an important theme of the forthcoming International Conference on Adult Education to be held in Hamburg in July next year.
